HELLO FRIEND................

This week I would to tell about SEARCH STRATEGIES BASIC. It talk about brainstorming for search terms. When should you use keywords, subject headings, phrases, single words.
         KEYWORDS

Keywords usually give you more resources (a broader search) . When you're first starting to formulate your research question, it can be useful to brainstorm keywords that are synonymous with or related to the major concepts of your topic, as well as narrower and broader terms.

        SUBJECT HEADINGS

Subject headings, which use a standardized vocabulary, usually give you more specific resources on your top Subject headings can be one word, two or more words, a phrase, a city, a country, a person, and other.
     Example for subject headings:

Ø Library Subject Headings.
Ø Science Subject Headings.
Ø Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms.
BOOLEAN SEARCHING
Boolean operators

·        For your information, boolean  searching is combining terms such as AND, OR, and NOT used in building a search statement or in putting several sets together.
·        Boolean operators are words that connect a search that may add or subtract a concept to your search.
·        Boolean searching is the most common and basic search strategy.

For example:

·        By using an AND between words you limit the search.
By placing an OR between words it expands the search.
When you use OR you receive more information because the search engine is looking for two words rather than just one word.
Another type of boolean searching tool is the 'not' operator which allows you to exclude words from the search.

OKAY...I hope you will be happy with my explanation .
ASSALAMUALAIKUM
