This lesson provides information and directions on how to use the online catalogues with use the OPAC system. Through it this system, you  can find the book, audiovisual, periodicals and other materials that can  be found in our library and the record tell you where items can be found, if they are available for checkout. For you information, is a one good reason is that libraries throughout   the world use a similar system   OPAC.

This also can be a big help and time-  saver in your search want to find book you have to search for the word that you entered in the  AUTHOR , TITLE, or SUBJECT fields.

Difference Between Basic & Advanced Search

Search engines have become an invaluable research tool for modern information seekers. Conducting a basic search by typing a general phrase into search engine can often yield fruitful results, but advanced searches are usually more efficient. While advanced searches take a little more time to perform, that time investment is usually made good by the increased relevance of the search results.

           SEARCH  INTERNET

• ·        Understand more about the Internet as an environment for finding information.

• ·        Evaluate the information that search tools provide.

• ·        Explore the strengths and weaknesses of different search tools.

You also can use a web search engine is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web.

Search tools search through limited lists of sites.

The information include consist of web pages, images, information and other types of files. Internet called as Information Superhighway .In search internet have 5 parts ;

•  Search Engines.

• Meta-search Engines.

• Information Gateways.

•  Subject Directories .

• Specialised Database .

                  SEARCH ENGINE

 For your information , search engine can teach you how to use computer software that makes the WWW searchable using keywords and phrases. The web that related to search engine is like,GOOGLE,ALTAVISA,BING ,ASK COM and other.

   Meta-search Engine.

Meta search engines is search tool that sends user requests to several other search engines or databases and aggregates the results into a single list .

   Information Gateways

The Information Gateway provides a central access point to the internet for a wide range of internet site. Information  gateways also related to subject directory. Subject directory mean, a collection of links to large number of internet resources organized by topic area.

Specialised Databases

Also known as the “invisible web” - pages of content not reached by robots.It is called “invisible” because it is out of the reach of the “spiders” and their search tools. For example is Bibliographic Database it mean includes citation that describe and identify titles, dates, authors, and other part of written works ,Google Scholar, and   Commercial Database.
